The last point of the IN-HABIT intervention corridor in Nitra is the Dražovce neighbourhood. Dražovce is a part of Nitra, but it was once an independent municipality, in which the local primary school with nine years of teaching has a long tradition.
Today, more than 90% of the school’s students belong to the Roma ethnic group. Our HUB of culture and environment will also affect this elementary school. After initial discussions with the director, community of teachers, and students of the school, we feel to be devoted to test many innovative forms of environmental education in school conditions, to involve children and parents of the Roma ethnic group in the process of transformation of the space around the school and to build children’s skills in cultivation, but also the relationship to the landscape and nature. Students of the school and their parents should be involved in the co-design of green solutions and required mobiliar, but also, they will “craft” and deliver these solutions together with IN-HABIT Nitra crew and experts from the Slovak University of Agriculture, or the KOZA community garden in Nitra.
Discussions with teachers of the school help us to understand specific needs of the school and Roma community a lot. The project gives the teaching staff the space to bring to the surface unrealized ideas on how to support the educational and integration process. As an example, we can mention our efforts to support the intention of one of the teachers to publish a cookbook of traditional Roma community recipes, and at the same time to work on changing the eating habits of Romani children towards healthier models of eating. We will send a shock impulse for change by organizing events together with the school on its premises (it has not been the case so far), which will enable us to support a progressive change in public perception.
Posledným bodom intervenčného koridoru IN-HABIT v Nitre je štvrť Dražovce. Dražovce sú mestskou časťou Nitry, no boli kedysi samostatnou obcou, v ktorej má miestna základná škola s deväťročným vyučovaním dlhoročnú tradíciu.
Dnes sa viac ako 90 % žiakov školy hlási k rómskemu etniku. Náš HUB kultúry a environmentu “zasiahne” aj túto základnú školu. Po úvodných diskusiách s riaditeľom, komunitou učiteľov a žiakmi školy cítime odhodlanie otestovať mnohé inovatívne formy environmentálnej výchovy v podmienkach školy, zapojiť deti a rodičov rómskeho etnika do procesu transformácie priestoru okolo školy a budovať u detí zručnosti v pestovaní, ale aj vzťah ku krajine a prírode. Študenti školy a ich rodičia by sa mali podieľať na spolunávrhu zelených riešení a navrhovaného mobiliára, ktorý aj vlastnými rukami vyrobia spolu s tímom IN-HABIT Nitra a odborníkmi zo Slovenskej poľnohospodárskej univerzity, alebo Komunitnej záhrady KOZA v Nitre.
Diskusie s učiteľmi školy nám veľmi pomáhajú pochopiť špecifické potreby školy a rómskej komunity. Projekt dáva učiteľskému zboru priestor vyniesť na povrch nerealizované nápady, ako podporiť vzdelávací a integračný proces. Ako príklad môžeme uviesť našu snahu podporiť zámer jednej z učiteliek vydať kuchársku knihu tradičných receptov rómskej komunity a zároveň pracovať na zmene stravovacích návykov rómskych detí smerom k zdravším modelom stravovania. Šokový impulz k zmene vyšleme organizovaním podujatí spolu so školou v jej priestoroch (doteraz tomu tak nebolo), čo nám umožní podporiť progresívnu zmenu vnímania školy verejnosťou.
