Design for Change emerged in 2009, and nowadays is currently present in more than 70 countries. In 2013, Design for Change Spain (DFC Spain) was created to give children and young people the opportunity to put their own ideas into practice to change the world.

The DFC methodology is a process inspired by Design Thinking. It has evolved to a way to not only empower children. It implies a training for trainers, teaching the methodology to professionals interested in education to be used not only for DFC projects with young people and children, but for engaging any need or challenge. The methodology as a process empowers the participants with innovative tools resulting in new ideas. This method based on the principle of “learning by doing” encourages experimentation and reflection on each stage, and evolving the ideas from a specific framework identifying different approaches to take into action. On their journey, the participants develop skills as empathy, creativity, teamwork, critical thinking and shared leadership.

DFC Spain has relevant experience in engaging participants of all ages. During the years, we have trained 5,700 professionals from 400 organisations (NGOs, schools, private sector). As a result, 30,000 children and young people have developed 700 DFC projects. The participation of DFC Spain relies on its experience as a practitioner, developing workshops with young people and teacher training, collecting and analysing data on real exercises throughout the work packages.

DFC Spain participates in WP5, Citizen Engagement, Inclusive Business Models and PPPP Schemes to Boost IHW.
