December 14, 2022An open call to comic creators based in the European Union from NetworkNature and The Nature of Cities.
NetworkNature has partnered up with The Nature of Cities to produce a new series of comics about nature-based solutions, their benefits and how nature can save the world.
What are nature-based solutions?
NBS are actions that use natural resources to tackle climate change and other environmental challenges. They can be put in place to reduce the environmental impact of cities, help protect or restore fragile ecosystems, and prevent extreme weather events. For example, mangrove forests protect the coastlines from erosion and offer the perfect environment for certain aquatic species to live and reproduce, but are often destroyed to make space for shrimp farms. Restoring the mangrove population is a good example of nature-based solutions.
The call:
NetworkNature and TNOC are asking comic creators based in the European Union (citizens or permanent residents) and aged 18 or older, to submit their proposals for comics about nature, its benefits and the impact it has on our planet and on human health and well-being. A board of judges will choose the best and commission up to 7 comics that will be published on both NN and TNOC websites, and on a third, specially-built, platform.
Submissions:
Proposals can be in any style or genre, in any of the 24 official languages of the EU. They need to include:
- a storyline/idea/scenario with both people and animals;
- A statement that explains why the artist is interested;
- resumé and portfolio;
- Storyboards or sketches (optional).
Artists can contribute more than one idea, but each one needs to be submitted separately.
The submission deadline is 15th January 2023.
