Bike-sharing is primarily a bicycle rental system that can be rented in one place and returned in another. I tis a well-known concept for renting a bicycle in the city for short-distance and short-term transport. However, frequent use of conventional bike-sharing services can be costly. IN-HABIT Nitra therefore runs a bike-sharing service for the local community. Bicycles are not returned after a single use, but the citizen rents it out for up to half a year. There is only a small fee of 20 euros for this service in half a year.
How it works?
Our bike-sharing builds on the existing bike-sharing service for students, which has stifled its activity in recent years. Therefore, it was taken over by IN-HUB Nitra with the idea of lending bicycles for a longer period of time to all citizens of the city. We currently have only 6 bicycles available. These bicycles were repaired at the workshop on April 30, but their number will be expanded during the project. The intention is to give soul to old bicycles, which would otherwise end up in a junkyard. These bicycles are easy to maintain, and project plans to give them a new design with which they will set off on the Nitra roads and cycle routes. During the workshop, our volunteers and repairmen worked together with the first people interested to have a bike from our bike-sharing service, which we also involved in the process of repairs and preparation of other bikes for future applicants.
We thank our volunteers and guys from Cyclo-pump Nitra for their support in repairing bicycles. We look forward to the new season of operation of the service that lies ahead. We hope that the number of green bicycles on the city streets will increase as much as possible and we will thus contribute to sustainable transport.
