From the 15th to the 17th of November 2022, IN-HABIT partner ENGIE Laborelec was delighted to attend the Smart City Expo World Congress 2022 in Barcelona, where it presented the IN-HABIT project, the project’s objectives, and its unique approach at its booth.
The Smart City Expo World Congress is an international leading event for cities whose mission is “to empower cities and collectivize urban innovation across the globe.” With the IN-HABIT project aiming to mobilise existing undervalued resources in small and medium-sized cities to increase inclusive health and well-being, the event provided a great forum to promote the technological, digital, nature-based, cultural and social innovations the project is deploying in urban public spaces and to identify opportunities for collaboration.
The 2022 congress focused on the theme of “Cities Inspired by People, sustainable cities in which public transport coexists with new mobility options; inclusive cities where streets and public services are accessible for all; safe cities which address both security and privacy concerns; collective cities where collaboration and participation becomes a pivot to build a better, thriving future.” This year’s record-breaking event saw over 20,000 in-person and 21,000 online attendees from 134 countries come together to explore eight main tracks: Enabling Technologies, Energy & Environment, Mobility, Governance, Living & Inclusion, Economy, Infrastructure & Buildings, and Safety & Security.
This fair gathers not only professionals from the Technology and Energy industries, such as IN-HABIT partner ENGIE Laborelec, but also representatives from cities all over the world. Some of the presentations and debates included in the programme this year gave prominence to social themes such as the place given to the citizen in a Smart City context and the governance of smart city projects. As well as presenting the project in this context, the event enabled IN-HABIT to attract interest from some private companies’ project leaders, and it also provided the opportunity for the project’s technical partners (Laborelec and Wellness TechGroup) to meet in person.
